The Transformation of The Gild
From Campbell Center to The Gild
Nestled in the heart of Dallas, Texas, Engage members work from a building that blends history, innovation, and community. The Gild, formerly known as the Campbell Center, represents a journey from its 1970s origins to a modern-day office hub. Its transformation is a reflection of how thoughtful design can foster creativity, collaboration, and well-being in today's workforce.
The Gild's Rich History
The Gild's twin 20-story towers, located at 8150-8350 N. Central Expressway, were originally designed by Neuhaus & Taylor. The first tower was completed in 1972, with the second following in 1977. The design stood out with its mirrored glass, coated with a microscopic layer of real gold—an iconic feature that led to the nickname “The Gold Towers.” These buildings even played a role in American pop culture, serving as the office for Cliff Barnes, J.R. Ewing's rival, in the hit television show Dallas from 1982 to 1988.
However, despite its unique architectural features and television fame, the Campbell Center needed an upgrade to meet the demands of modern tenants and businesses. In 2021, Fenway Capital Advisors acquired the property, initiating a multimillion-dollar renovation to transform it into The Gild, a Class A property that balances modern functionality with its rich historical character.
2021 Renovations
The 2021 renovation, led by the renowned Dallas design firm Gensler, sought to breathe new life into the building without losing its unique 70s charm. The result is a vibrant workspace with numerous upgrades and amenities designed to attract top talent and create a campus-like environment.
Key features of the renovation include:
Enhanced Entrances and Lobbies: Both the North and South towers now feature upgraded entrances that lead to bright, welcoming lobbies. These lobbies have been transformed into hospitality lounges with coffee bars and convenient '“grab & go” options, perfect for busy professionals.
Coffee Culture: Engage members can enjoy a hot cup of coffee from the popular White Rhino Coffee Shop or grab a quick meal at Hightower Café. These new amenities provide a social space where members can relax, connect, or brainstorm with colleagues.
Entertainment and Social Spaces: A media room, shuffleboard hall, ping-pong room, conference rooms, and arcade games were added to create spaces where tenants can unwind and socialize.
Modern Workspaces: The addition of redesigned tenant work lounges offers both active and quiet zones, making it easy to find a space that matches your work style—whether you're diving into a collaborative project or focusing on solo tasks.
Fitness and Well-Being: For health-conscious members, The Gild offers a state-of-the-art fitness center and on-demand car transportation services. The building’s community connector park with outdoor seating adds an element of nature, promoting well-being and work-life balance.
How The Gild Enhances Engage's Member Experience
For Engage members, The Gild offers more than just a workspace—its modern amenities and sleek design help members feel inspired every day, while its historical significance adds a unique character to the workplace. As Engage continues to grow, The Gild offers an ideal environment for its members to thrive. The transformation of The Gild exemplifies how thoughtful renovations and an understanding of tenant needs can turn a historical landmark into a thriving community. With the many amenities and services now available, The Gild isn’t just a place to work—it's a place where Engage members can connect, create, and succeed.
